Central govt suggested more BRT corridors in the Capital

The Delhi Government has wisped the controversial BRT, a central panel has suggested that more such corridors should be set up and 6,000 buses procured for public transport in interventions worth Rs 20,000 crore for traffic decongestion in the National Capital.

Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu who slay of measures favoured by the high-powered committee set up, now introduced congestion tax, effective parking price besides boost to walking, cycling infrastructure and public transport to discourage use of private vehicles.

The inter-ministerial committee on ‘Decongestion of Traffic in Delhi’, headed by Urban Development Ministry Secretary Rajiv Gauba, has also called for better use of existing road space and traffic management instead of constructing more flyovers in the city.

The committee was set in 2014 following media reports on the havoc being caused by traffic congestion in the Capital.
