New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre is gearing up to ban the 'Popular Front of India (PFI).' This radical Islamic organization has already been banned in several states. The apex court was informed about the same on Wednesday. A bench of Chief Justice N V Ramanna, Justice Suryakant and Justice AS Bopanna was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta quoting his information. The organisation was also named during the anti-CAA violence and the Delhi riots.

Tushar Mehta was representing the Uttar Pradesh government in the apex court. He said Kerala journalist Siddiqui belongs to Kappan PFI. Many officials of the organization already belong to the ban organisation 'Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).' The Supreme Court then asked Tushar Mehta if PFI had been banned. Mehta said it is banned in several states. He also said, "As far as I am informed, the Central Government has also started the process of banning it. The bench then noted that the PFI has not been banned so far.

However, the whole matter is related to the Hathras case. After the killing of a Dalit girl in Hathras last year, a conspiracy of widespread violence was hatched under the guise of massive protests. Meanwhile, Kappan was also arrested on his way there.
