Jalgaon Train Accident: The Central Government has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Jalgaon train accident on Wednesday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also assured that the state government will cover the medical expenses of the injured victims.
The accident claimed the lives of 12 people and left five others with serious injuries. Four additional individuals sustained minor injuries. The incident occurred when passengers aboard the 12533 Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express panicked due to a suspected fire and jumped onto the adjacent railway track. Tragically, the oncoming Karnataka Express, traveling from Bengaluru to Delhi, struck the passengers.
The Railway Ministry has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured. The injured victims include Hasan Ali, Vijay Kumar, Uttam Harjan, Dharma Sawant, and Abu Mohammad.
This heartbreaking accident has once again highlighted the importance of railway safety measures. Both state and central authorities have extended their support to the affected families during this difficult time.

The tragic incident claimed the lives of at least 11 people and left six others injured after the Karnataka Express collided with passengers near Jalgaon. The victims were travelers from the Pushpak Express who had disembarked from their train due to a suspected fire. Unfortunately, while standing or moving near the adjacent track, the Karnataka Express passed through, resulting in the accident.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Information & Publicity Department at the Railway Board, explained the sequence of events leading to the tragedy. He noted that a passenger on the Pushpak Express had pulled the alarm chain, prompting others to deboard the train. While standing on or attempting to cross the adjacent track, they were struck by the Karnataka Express.
"Some passengers boarded the Pushpak Express from Bhusawal. After one individual pulled the alarm chain, several others deboarded. Sadly, while they were on the tracks, the Karnataka Express approached and hit them," Kumar said during a press briefing.
Nashik Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam reported that ambulances and officials were promptly dispatched to the site. He confirmed that the Additional Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, and the District Collector were collaborating with railway authorities to manage the situation effectively.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his grief over the incident and confirmed that he had spoken with Chief Minister Fadnavis. “The train accident in Jalgaon is heartbreaking. I have discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, and the local administration is ensuring all necessary assistance for the injured. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and I wish for the speedy recovery of those injured,” Shah stated in a message on his X account.
