New Delhi: The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said on Tuesday that during the kharif marketing season (KMS) 2021-22, it procured over 209.52 LMT paddy from procuring states and union territories such as Chandigarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Telangana, Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar.
The Centre announced on Monday that during the kharif marketing season 2021-22, it had procured over 210 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy from 13 states. A release from the Ministry stated that as a result of this, about 11.57 lakh farmers have benefited from a minimum support price (MSP) worth Rs 41,066.80 crore. According to the government, paddy procurement is proceeding smoothly during KMS 2021-22 at MSP from farmers, as it has in previous years.
Kharif crops, also known as monsoon crops or autumn crops, are domesticated plants grown and harvested in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh during the monsoon season, which lasts from June to November depending on the region.
