Farmers and women from Amaravati launched a 'Mahapadyatra' on Monday, demanding that the city remain the only state capital of Andhra Pradesh. The march will end in Tirupati on December 17.  The 'Court to Temple' mega walkathon was organised by Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi and Amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC). Participants in the 'Mahapadyatra,' which began near the Andhra Pradesh High Court, will walk 10-15 kilometres per day for the next 45 days to reach the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala.

TDP leaders Devineni Uma, P. Pulla Rao, and others were among those who attended the inaugural event. Farmers and women offered prayers before beginning the walkathon, and an all-faith prayer meeting was also held. In the districts of Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, and Chittoor, the 'Mahapadyatra' will pass through 70 major villages.

The 'Mahapadyatra' marks the start of a new phase of Amaravati farmers' agitation, which has lasted 660 days and is protesting the state government's plans for the trifurcation of the state capital. After taking power in 2019, the YSRCP government decided to move the administrative and judicial capitals to Visakhapatnam and Kurnool, respectively, while keeping Amaravati as the legislative capital.
