Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, hoisted the National Flag at his official residence in Tadepalli on Monday to commemorate the state's formation.

The Chief Minister was greeted by a police guard of honour and the Tricolor was unfurled. He also decorated the statues of Telugu Talli and Potti Sriramulu with flowers. Andhra Pradesh was formed when Telangana was merged with Andhra Pradesh on November 1, 1956. Until 2014, when Telangana was created as a separate state, undivided Andhra Pradesh continued to celebrate Formation Day on November 1.

N. Chandrababu Naidu, after becoming the first Chief Minister of a truncated Andhra Pradesh, chose June 2 to commemorate the state's formation. The Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government, which came to power in 2019, reverted to the November 1 date for Foundation Day celebrations.
