Centre launches the 10th Integrated Ratings of DISCOMs

New Delhi:  On Friday, the central government unveiled a smartphone app for smart prepaid metres and the Consumer Services Index of DISCOMs (power distribution companies). The 10th Integrated Ratings of DISCOMs were also introduced by the Centre.

On Friday, the Review Planning and Monitoring (RPM) meeting with the States and State Power Utilities was presided over by RK Singh, the Union Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy. 

Top representatives from the Union Power Ministry and state power departments, as well as Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar, were present at the meet. The meeting discussed many matters of national significance in the power sector, with a focus on the viability and sustainability of the industry, according to the Ministry of Power.

These included the liquidation of government department electricity dues and subsidy dues, progress on prepaid Smart metering in government departments, the setting up of reliable energy accounting and subsidy accounting systems and timely and advance payments,  the fixing of timely regular and true-up tariffs, the timely finalisation of utility accounts, the progress of Feeder & DT metering, the progress on Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and compliance with Electrification of Buildings regulations.

The 10th Integrated Rating of Power Distribution Utilities, the first Consumer Service Rating of DISCOMs, and the Bharat eSmart Mobile Application were were launched during the meeting by the Union Minister.

A free smartphone app for prepaid smart metres was also released in an effort to increase consumer empowerment in preparation for the widespread implementation of smart metering. This mobile app would expand on the data from the smart metres and would give consumers crucial information about their usage and the amount of electricity still in reserve, both in terms of units and money. Customers would be able to obtain real-time information on their electricity usage using the app and get alerts and notifications.
