Two new judges have been appointed to India's Supreme Court. The appointments of Guwahati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Gujarat High Court Judge Jamshed B Pardiwala as judges of the Supreme Court were announced on Saturday by the Central Government.

The President is happy to designate Shri Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, according to a letter from the Ministry of Justice.

"The President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala, Judge of the Gujarat High Court, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," another letter stated.

The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice N V Ramana, recommended Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Jamshed B Pardiwala for elevation to the Supreme Court on Thursday. CJI Ramana is joined by Justices U U Lalit, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud, and L Nageswara Rao to form the Collegium. Justice Dhulia will be the second judge from the Uttarakhand High Court to be elevated to the Supreme Court, while Justice Pardiwala will be the fourth Parsi to serve on the bench. Justice Dhulia, who was born on August 10, 1960, is from Madanpur, a small town in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal District, and graduated from Allahabad High Court in 1986.

Justice Dhulia attended Lucknow's Sainik School. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from Allahabad University.

On August 12, 1965, Justice Pardiwala was born. In his hometown of Valsad, he attended Joseph Convent School (South Gujarat).
