New Delhi: On an Enforcement Directorate application, the Patiala House Court of Delhi issued a bailable warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira Banerjee for allegedly refusing to join the probe into a money laundering case linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal.

Enforcement Directorate's appeal, submitted by Special Public Prosecutor Nitesh Rana, that she is not appearing before the investigating agency despite repeated summons issued against her, was granted by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria. The case was postponed until August 20, 2022, after a bailable warrant was issued against Rujira Benarjee.

The Delhi High Court recently dismissed TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's and his wife's petitions challenging their summons to appear in the national capital in a money-laundering inquiry involving an alleged coal fraud in West Bengal.

Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee have petitioned the Enforcement Directorate for a directive not to summon them to New Delhi and to conduct any further investigation in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The petition stated that the petitioner, Abhishek Banerjee, is a West Bengal politician who is currently serving in the Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament, having been elected from the Diamond Harbour, South 24 Parganas constituency in West Bengal, and is thus a respected individual and a prominent member of the Indian polity and society. The plea stated that he has two small children under her care.
