Kolkata: A bailable warrant has been issued against Rujira Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and wife of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee. In fact, even after several summons was issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing the coal smuggling case, Rujira did not appear for questioning, after which a bailable warrant has been issued against her.

While Abhishek Banerjee has been questioned by the investigating agency twice in this case, his wife Rujira has not yet appeared before the ED even after the summons was issued. The ED had summoned Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira to its Delhi office on March 21 and 22 for questioning. Abhishek and Rujira Banerjee had earlier approached the Delhi High Court against the ED's summons, but the court refused to grant them any relief. Abhishek had demanded that the ED should interrogate him and his wife in Kolkata and not in Delhi.

Let us inform that in March, Abhishek Banerjee had appeared in the ED's office. During this, the officers questioned him for eight hours. At the same time, his wife did not reach the ED office. His wife was first issued summons in September last year. During that time he had said that due to the corona epidemic, his going to Delhi could be fatal for his health.

What is the matter :-

Let us inform that the CBI had registered an FIR against Anoop Maji, Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) and other unidentified persons in connection with illegal extraction of coal from Durgapur-Asansol belt and later Jharkhand. Sources have told that illegal coal worth crores of rupees was smuggled in these border areas with the help of government officials and politicians. Sources in the coal smuggling case have said that during its investigation, the ED has found that two companies, Leaps and Bound Private Limited and Leaps and Bound Management Services, linked to Abhishek Banerjee and his family, had received Rs 4.37 crore from a construction company through the accused. Protection fund was taken.

Amit Banerjee, father of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, is reportedly one of the directors of Leaps and Bound Pvt Ltd. At the same time, Abhishek's wife Rujira Banerjee is reportedly the director of Leap and Bound Management Services Limited along with his father. The ED claims that in March 2020, the main accused in the alleged coal smuggling case, Anoop Majhi, had asked a witness to give money to the arrested West Bengal Police Inspector Ashok Mishra. The ED reportedly found that crores of rupees packed in cartons were taken almost every day to Ashok Mishra, who forwarded the money.
