NEW DELHI: The Central government has notified the elevation of 2 judges to be chief justices of the Karnataka High Court, J & K and Ladakh High Court. The court also notified the transfer of Chief Justice of J&K High Court to the Rajasthan High Court.
Kiren Rijiju, the law minister, stated in a tweet: "In accordance with the provisions of the constitution, Justice Pankaj Mithal is appointed Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, Justice PB Varale is named Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, and Justice AM Magrey is appointed Chief Justice of the J&K and Ladakh High Court. I send each of them my warmest wishes ".
The Supreme Court collegium suggested in September that Justice P.B. Varle, a Bombay High Court judge at the time, be elevated to Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, and that Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey be elevated to Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
The collegium suggested in another statement that Justice Pankaj Mithal be transferred from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to the Rajasthan High Court.
The Collegium also earlier recommended the elevation of three judges from high courts, the court said in a separate statement: Justice Jaswant Singh, an Orissa High Court judge, as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court; Justice P.B. Varle, a Bombay High Court judge, as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court; and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
The three high court judges were Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra from the Uttarakhand High Court to the Jharkhand High Court, Justice K. Vinod Chandran from the Kerala High Court to the Bombay High Court, and Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh from the Jharkhand High Court to the Tripura High Court, according to the collegium's recommendations.
