NEW DELHI: Today in the Lok Sabha, the Central Government is set to introduce the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill, 2023. This bill aims to establish the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, which will play a crucial role in providing strategic direction for research innovation and entrepreneurship. Its focus will be on various fields, including natural sciences like mathematical sciences, engineering, technology, environmental and earth sciences, health, agriculture, and the scientific and technological aspects of humanities and social sciences. The primary objective of this foundation is to support, monitor, and promote research in these areas.

To ensure a strong disciplinary framework within the armed forces, the government is also seeking the passage of the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control, and Discipline) Bill, 2023. This bill empowers the Commander-in-Chief or the Officer-in-Command of Inter-services Organisations to exercise authority over service personnel subject to the Air Force Act, 1950, the Army Act, 1950, and the Navy Act, 1957. It aims to maintain discipline and ensure the proper discharge of duties among those serving under or attached to their command.

Another bill to be pursued is the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023. The proposed amendment seeks to elevate the status of the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) in Mumbai by transforming it into an IIM. NITIE, established in 1963 with assistance from the International Labour Organization, will be upgraded to further enhance the management education landscape in India.
