Defending champions Liverpool crashed out of the tournament with a margin of 2-3 and a total of 2-4 over Atletico Madrid in the extra-time match. Atlético scored all three goals in extra time. Liverpool were leading 2–0 until the 94th minute.

For him goals were scored by Georginio Wijnaldum (43rd minute) and Roberto Fermino (94th minute). For Atlético, Marcos Laurente (97th, 105 + 1 minute) and Alvaro Morata (120 + 1 minute) led the team to the quarterfinals.

The second leg of the last-16 match between Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Borussia Dortmant was also played between closed doors. In this, PSG have entered the quarter-finals after four years by beating Dortmant 2–0 and 3–3 on aggregate with Neymar (28th minute) and Juan Bernat (45 + 1 minute). PSG had earlier made it to the last eight in 2015-16.
