Australian technology used
The tunnelling of the north and south portals of the tunnel was completed amidst challenges due to Kovid-19 and nationwide lockout. The construction of the tunnel was a challenging task in view of land acquisition, weak geology, continuous drainage and the possibility of sitting down due to the densely built-up area over the tunnel. The border road organization started work on the north portal of the tunnel in January 2019, but Work on the South Portal could begin after October 2019, after resolving the issues of land compensation and house security over the tunnel with the active support of the state government. The success of this tunnel will help speed up traffic. He also mentioned that the latest Australian technology has been used in the construction of the Chamba tunnel.
The tunnel will be ready for traffic by October 2020
With the use of modern technology and machines provided by M / s Bharat Construction, Dehradun, the losses incurred from time to time were worked out in a day and night shifts. The tunnel will be ready for traffic by October 2020, about three months before the scheduled completion date in January 2021.
