Rampur: The probe into the cases registered against Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MP Azam Khan from Rampur Lok Sabha seat has intensified. Azam Khan has also been caught up in the police investigation for making objectionable remarks against BJP candidate Jaya Prada during the Lok Sabha elections 2019. The police have filed a chargesheet against former MP Jaya Prada for making unwarranted remarks against her.

It may be mentioned that 28 cases have been registered against Azam Khan in the month of July, while 15 cases were registered during the Lok Sabha elections in violation of the code of conduct. Azam Khan had made objectionable and indecent remarks against BJP candidate Jaya Prada at a public meeting in Shahabad. The SP's National President Akhilesh Yadav was also present at the meeting.

A case was registered against Azam on behalf of the administration in this case. He was also banned by the Election Commission. In the same case, Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey had also registered a case in Kanpur, which has been transferred to Rampur for investigation. The police have filed a charge sheet against Azam Khan after investigation in the case registered at Shahbad police station. Section 509 (defamation) and 125 are charged under the Representation of the People Act.
