The Academy Awards popularly Known as the Oscar awards will be held on March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. A few days ago it was announced that surpassing all Big Budget Bollywood and South Indian movie, a small Budget Gujarati movie Chhello Show was selected as India’s official entry to the 95th Academy Awards for the international film category. Meanwhile, from the day  it was announced that the movie was announced that Chhellow show became official entry the movie is receiving Backlash. Some people are upset as it is selected over RRR meanwhile some also called the movie copy.

Chhellow Show director Pan Nalin recently opens up on this criticism and said, “I was disappointed and disheartened that people were jumping to conclusions without watching it. I can’t even blame people, they have not seen the movie. We have done zero lobbying. We have sold the movie in the same way, to a studio in Japan. But for people it has to make commercial sense. Many of the people think whatever is most popular is going to get an Oscar. If they Google, they would know what the trend is going in terms of international feature films. I was a little disappointed. I knew other fellow filmmakers from other countries where they were being celebrated, and prepared to go for Oscars, and meanwhile, we were dealing with happy news and backlash.

'Chhelo Show' is inspired by its movie’s director Pan Nalin's childhood memories, which makes it a semi-autobiographical film. Nalin was born and spent all her childhood in Adtala village of Saurashtra. 'Chhelo Show' features six village boys from local communities in the region and was shot in villages and railway stations in Saurashtra. He also brought in old celluloid Hindi films and technicians to run projectors to make the film look as real as possible.
