Islamabad: In a heart-stopping incident, eight individuals, including six children, found themselves precariously suspended inside a cable car over a vast Pakistani valley on Tuesday. 

The cable car malfunctioned at an alarming height of approximately 1,200 feet (365 meters), leaving the occupants stranded and triggering a high-stakes rescue mission amid growing safety concerns surrounding cable cars in the region.

Tragedy struck as the children were en route to school, utilizing the chairlift to traverse the valley. Midway through their journey, the cable gave way, plunging them into a perilous predicament.

Immediate efforts to extricate them from the perilous situation were initiated, with army helicopters mobilized for the critical task of airlifting the stranded individuals to safety.

Although the precise cause of the incident remains undetermined, officials surmise that a technical malfunction could have been the culprit. 

The accident has underscored the pressing safety apprehensions linked to cable cars in Pakistan, a mode of transportation that has previously experienced unfortunate accidents. Notably, in 2019, a cable car mishap in northern Pakistan claimed the lives of 20 individuals.

In response to this disconcerting incident, the government has launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the factors contributing to the cable car's malfunction. With public safety at stake, authorities have pledged to take concerted action to enhance safety standards and rectify any inadequacies identified.
