China expressed its'support' for Russian President Vladimir Putin's participation in the next G20 summit on Wednesday, as per reports. China's stance comes as the United States consults with its partners on whether Russia should remain a member of the G-20 grouping of major countries following its invasion of Ukraine. It's "cannot be business as usual" with Russia, according to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

The G20 is the most important platform for international economic cooperation and global economic governance.

Commenting on Russia's membership in the G-20, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters at a White House press briefing, "We feel it cannot be business as usual for Russia in international institutions and in the international community."

"However, with respect to specific institutions and choices, we'd like to speak with our Allies and partners in those institutions before making any additional statements," Sullivan added. So far, the United States and its allies, notably Europe, have placed severe penalties on Russia, including a ban on Russian oil and gas imports.  Sullivan, on the other hand, stated that America's European allies and partners would be unable to follow suit in blocking Russian oil and gas.
