Kathmandu: The ruling communist parties of Nepal and China held a virtual meeting on Friday. In this meeting held through video conference, both countries discussed the current political situation. Both shared their experiences of running the party and the government. Other senior leaders including Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chief Pushp Kamal Dahal and Deputy Prime Minister Ishore Pokharel attended the video conference along with senior Chinese leaders.
According to sources close to the NCP, the meeting mainly discussed the relationship between the two communist parties, the current Coronavirus epidemic, and the current political situation. At the meeting, Dahal reiterated Nepal's commitment to the 'One China' policy regarding Tibet and Taiwan. However, it has been reported in the local media report that some Nepali leaders have questioned the timing of the meeting with China. According to him, there is a dispute between Nepal and India on one side about Kalapani, Lipulek, etc. There is a deadlock on the border between China and India regarding Galvan Valley.
According to a report by the Kathmandu Post, a central member of the NCP said that given the Sino-Indian military tension and tensions between Nepal and India over Kalapani, Lipulence, etc., was this the right time for this meeting? Former Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa said that such a meeting is objectionable. He has tweeted, "Offensive, a neo-colonial practice." Thapa is also the head of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party.
