China, Russia  leaders  greet India's new President Murmu

NEW DELHI: Several foreign leaders, including the presidents of China, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, have congratulated India's new president, Droupadi Murmu, on her appointment and stated their wish to work with her to strengthen their respective countries' diverse connections with India.

On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Murmu, 64, on her election, saying he is ready to work with her to strengthen political mutual trust, increase practical collaboration, and correctly handle conflicts.

President Xi noted in his congratulatory message that China and India are important neighbours, and that a healthy and stable China-India relationship is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and their people, as well as conducive to peace, stability, and development in the region and around the world.

Xi Jinpin expressed that he values China-India relations and is ready to work with Murmu to strengthen political mutual confidence, increase practical cooperation, properly resolve differences, and move bilateral relationships forward.

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Murmu and expressed optimism that she will boost mutual constructive collaboration in the future. "We place a high value on our special and privileged strategic alliance with India," Putin said in the message.

"I hope your activities as the head of state will promote the further development of the Russian-Indian political dialogue and productive cooperation in various areas for the benefit of our friendly nations and in the interests of stronger international stability and security," he said in a message released on Saturday.
