New Delhi: In a groundbreaking achievement, China's private space company, Landscape, has successfully launched the world's first methane-liquid oxygen rocket, propelling the nation ahead of its rivals in the global race to develop this innovative rocket technology.
Named the Zhuque-2, the rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China at 9:00 a.m. local time. Carrying a payload of three small satellites into orbit, the Zhuque-2 marks a significant milestone for China's space program.
Distinguished by its use of methane and liquid oxygen as propellants, the Zhuque-2 is a two-stage rocket. Methane, known for its cleaner-burning properties compared to traditional rocket fuels, such as kerosene and liquid hydrogen, presents a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective option for space launches. Additionally, methane fuel sources are more readily available, further bolstering the rocket's appeal.
