KATHMANDU: Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister and State Councillor, will visit Nepal from March 25 to 27, the Kathmandu Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

Wang is the first high-ranking foreign dignitary to visit Nepal since the Sher Bahadur Deuba government took office on July 13, 2017. Wang is in Nepal on the invitation of Nepalese Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, according to the Ministry. During the visit, certain agreements could be inked, including the implementation of Chinese President Xi Jinping's signature plan, the Belt and Road Initiative.

Although Nepal signed the BRI Framework Agreement in 2017, no projects have yet been implemented. Both sides will also evaluate past agreements, including those reached during President Xi's visit to the United States in 2019, as well as look into new areas of collaboration. According to the Ministry, Khadka and Wang will hold bilateral meetings on March 26. During his visit to Kathmandu, the Chinese Minister will meet with K.P. Sharma Oli, the chair of the CPN-UML, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the leader of the CPN (Maoist Centre).
