New Delhi: On Monday, giving a satirical reply to opposition’s “chowkidar chor hai” jibe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh said, “chowkidar chor nahi, chowkidar pure hai” (the watchman is not a thief but pure). Referring to Prime Minister Modi as chowkidar, he further exhorted confidence that PM Modi will be re-elected in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, asserting he is the only “cure” of all the problems of the country.

Singh said at a rally in Delhi  “Chowkidar chor nahi, chowkidar pure hai. chowkidar ka dobara PM banana sure hai, desh ki samasyaon ka woh hi cure hai. ( the watchman is not a thief but pure, his becoming PM again is sure, he is the cure of the all problems prevailing in the country),”. Singh had earlier lashed out at the opposition for its repeated jibe of “chowkidar chor hai” at PM Modi and said, "no one can raise the question on the intention and integrity of the prime minister.”

Here it is to be noted that Prime Minister Modi recently launched the ‘main bhi chowkidar’ poll campaign in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, inviting criticism from opposition. He also interacted with 25 lakh security guards via audio message a day before Holi and said that opposition’s “chowkidar chor hai” jibe was an insult to the chowkidars of the country. Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his party leaders have been repeatedly hurling “chowkidar chor hai” barb against Prime Minister Modi, alleging irregularities in the Rafale fighter jet deal.
