NEW DELHI: MPrime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at a Christmas event organized by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), called for unity among citizens to address societal challenges like violence and instability. His message, posted on social media the following day, highlighted the importance of compassion, social welfare, and shared goals.

He emphasized that the values taught by Jesus Christ, which promote love, peace, and brotherhood, should serve as a guiding force in bringing the country together. He urged, “We must stand united to foster harmony and address issues such as violence and societal unrest.”

Looking at India's global standing, Modi highlighted the country's support to other nations during the COVID-19 pandemic, even extending help beyond its own resources.The country not only provided medicines to several countries but also sent vaccines worldwide, contributing to global efforts to fight the pandemic.

Over the past decade, PM Modi observed, India has made remarkable progress in poverty alleviation and economic growth.  "We are empowering both Yuva (youth) and women power(Nari Shakti), paving the way for a brighter & more confident future," he said. He also highlighted major initiatives like PM AwasYojana and #MatsyaSampadaYojana, which have significantly improved the lives of countless people.

The Prime Minister also underscored the significance of social welfare and empowerment, highlighting the transformative impact of India’s policies across different sectors. He explained that these policies have helped uplift vulnerable communities, particularly women, and youth, by offering new opportunities in education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

In his address, PM Modi strongly condemned the recent terror attack at Germany’s Magdeburg Christmas Market, which resulted in the tragic deaths of four women and a child, and left 205 others injured, including seven Indians. India extended its support to over 150 countries, with nations such as Guyana and several island nations expressing their heartfelt gratitude.  He expressed his condolences and emphasized the importance of protecting human lives over all else.

Highlighting India’s humanitarian efforts, the Prime Minister pointed to the nation’s extensive global assistance during the pandemic. The PM also recalled the successful evacuation of Indian citizens from war-torn regions, including the rescue of Father Alexis Prem Kumar from Afghanistan, who had been held hostage for months.

PM Modi took pride in the appointment of George Koovakad as a Cardinal in the Holy Roman Catholic Church. He remarked, "It is a moment of pride that His Holiness Pope Francis has made His Eminence George Koovakad a Cardinal," celebrating the achievement as a symbol of India’s growing stature on the global stage.

The Prime Minister also noted India's significant economic progress over the past decade, mentioning that 250 million people had been lifted out of poverty. He highlighted that India’s economy had advanced from the 10th to the 5th largest globally. He applauded the ambition and drive of India’s youth and pointed out the increasing role of women in diverse fields, including entrepreneurship and the armed forces. “Empowering women is essential for the progress of any nation,” he asserted.

The PM also underscored India’s advancements in technology, like mobile & semiconductor manufacturing, which are driving the nation’s growth. He described the rapid development of infrastructure, including new expressways, rural roads, and metro routes, as essential to creating a brighter future for all.

Reiterating the values of compassion and selfless service taught by Jesus Christ, the Prime Minister concluded his address by reaffirming the government's commitment to these ideals through programs like the PM Awas Yojana and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which empower women by increasing their representation in Parliament.

In his closing remarks, Prime Minster expressed confidence in India’s continued progress. Modi also spoke of India’s technological advancements, particularly in mobile and semiconductor manufacturing, which are driving the nation’s growth. He called on the nation to continue working together to build a better and more inclusive future.
