New Delhi: The issue of the Pegasus espionage case continues to be a stir of opposition from the street to Parliament. The case was also heard in the country's largest court on Thursday. Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramanna while hearing the petitioner questioned why a complaint has not been lodged under the IT Act in the case.
Advocate ML Sharma, who filed a petition in the Supreme Court over the issue, faced a tough time at the beginning of the hearing. The Chief Justice told the court that he would first listen to Kapil Sibal as ML Sharma's petition is only on the basis of newspaper cutting. The Chief Justice asked, "Why have you filed the petition?" Kapil Sibal, appearing for senior journalist N. Ram, told the court that software like Pegasus is an attack on a person's privacy and is against the rules of the Constitution.
Sibal said in court that only on the basis of one phone can anyone enter our lives, see and hear everything. On this, the Chief Justice said that the allegations are serious if what the news report says is true. CJI said the matter came up two years ago, an international issue. In such a case, the petition should have included the facts in a concrete manner. CJI asked why no one had made a criminal complaint in the case so far, which could have been done under the IT Act.
