BENGALURU: With Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai confirming his visit to New Delhi, the ruling BJP government has begun campaigning for state cabinet positions. On Friday, Bommai would leave for New Delhi, he said.

The long-awaited cabinet expansion exercise is set to take place in the first week of May. Political strong hitters have already begun frantically lobbying for powerful cabinet positions. Five cabinet positions have become vacant as a result of K.S. Eshwarappa's post vaccant.

With the impending assembly elections in 2023 in mind, the party's top command is also considering a shake-up of the state government. According to party sources, up to ten fresh faces will be brought into the government. The party is also considering making changes to the Home portfolio.

Araga Jnanendra, the current state Home Minister, has embarrassed the ruling BJP with his statement regarding the Mysuru gang rape. He claimed that he is being raped by his opponents. Araga Jnanendra alleged in relation to a recent youth murder case in Bengaluru that the youth was killed because he could not speak Urdu. He afterwards apologised and retracted his statement. The party has also suffered a great deal of shame as a result of this.

R. Ashok, who is now in charge of the Revenue Ministry, is expected to be assigned the Home Ministry. The party is also seriously considering appointing B.Y. Vijayendra, the son of former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa, to the government. According to reports, the party is likely to seek a cabinet role for senior leader Ramesh Jarakiholi, who lost his cabinet seat in the purported Sex CD Scandal.
