Amritsar: In the midst of the continuing tug-of-war in Punjab between CM Charanjeet Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu, state Congress president Kam Channi has convened a meeting of party block presidents to listen to their concerns and strategize ahead of the 2022 assembly. Channi has previously convened field meetings of block presidents from the Malwa, Doaba, and Majha areas.
After meeting with malwa block presidents on Monday, Cm Channi met with Doaba and Majha leaders on Tuesday, while Sidhu was in Ludhiana meeting with party councillors and industrialists. Harish Chaudhary, the AICC's secretary-in-charge for Punjab, has attended meetings at the chief minister's residence, while Sidhu has been absent from both sessions. According to sources close to Sidhu, he was not even asked to the meeting.
'If he had been invited, he would have gone to the meeting,' a person close to Sidhu claimed. He said that holding meetings of Congress functionaries was only fair for the chief minister and the in-charge. The block presidents are said to have highlighted the matter of Sidhu's criticism on the administration. 'Some people thought Sidhu should be instructed not to criticise the government,' a leader remarked.
