Dehradun: The Kanwar Yatra has begun on the first day of Sawan. On Thursday, the Kanwariyas took Ganga water from Harki Padi and left for their destination. At the same time, Director General of Police Ashok Kumar inspected the fair area and saw the arrangements and held a meeting of the officers for the smooth conduct of Kanwar Mela.

Regarding the Kanwar Yatra which began on Thursday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "We have made all arrangements to make the Kanwar Yatra safe and accessible to the people.'' Chief Minister Dhami, who is on a visit to Champawat, said at a function here that around 5 crore pilgrims are expected to come this time. "We also appeal to the Kanwariyas to follow the rules framed by the administration.''

On the other hand, Director General of Police Ashok Kumar inspected the Mela area and saw the arrangements and held a meeting of the officers for the smooth conduct of the Kanwar Mela. He said that the Kanwar Yatra is challenging. The officers and staff of the police will perform duties with restraint. In addition to sensitive and high passenger pressure areas, there will be a 24-hour deployment of paramilitary forces and police on the border. On Wednesday night, the DGP conducted a ground inspection of Bairagi Camp, Singhdwar, Shankaracharya Chowk, Bus Stand, Jwalapur, Nildhara Parking, and Rodi Belwala areas of the Mela area.
