Mumbai: In a written reply to a question on tiger deaths in the Maharashtra Assembly, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that 23 tiger deaths have been reported in the state in the last six months, in which 23 tigers have died in the state since January 2021 to July 2021. Out of 23 tigers, 15 have died due to natural causes, 1 in railway accidents, 4 by use of poison, 1 by electrocution, 2 by hunting. Thus a total of 23 tigers have died. Out of these 23 tigers, 15 were adult tigers while 8 were their cubs. On the other hand, from January to September, tigers killed 39 people.

Actually, CM Uddhav Thackeray has given this written answer on the question of the death of humans by tigers. Between January 1 and September 30, 65 people have died in the state in the conflict between humans and animals. Out of these 65 deaths, 39 have happened only in the attack of tigers. At the same time, between 1 January 2020 and 30 September 2020 last year, 61 people died of which 31 people died due to tigers.

Let me tell you that the state government in a written reply said that 1.5 lakh assistance is provided to the families of the victims killed in wild animal attacks. Meanwhile, the perpetrator of the killing of tigers using poison has been arrested. However, the hunt for the perpetrators is still continuing. Significantly, the tiger is the national animal of India. Even then, tigers were on the verge of extinction in the country in 2010. India's largest tiger reserve is Nagarjuna Sagar Srisailam, while Maharashtra has the country's smallest tiger reserve. The whole world currently celebrates International Tiger Day on July 29.
