The Yogi Adityanath government had put the ordinance in the cabinet meeting on Friday to compensate the loss from people who have damaged public and private properties during protests and processions and other such events. After the approval of the draft Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Ordinance, 2020 in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, vigorous discussions have also started regarding its impact.

In this case, the Supreme Court had earlier filed a case against the culprits in view of the damage done to public and private property and ordered legal action for recovery for compensation. Advocate Pranshu Aggarwal says that due to some legal hurdles, there could not be direct recovery from the accused of nuisance. Till now the action of attachment of property of an accused was possible only under the Gangster Act. The property will be recovered directly from the miscreants if a clear law is enacted.
