Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that no one is being compelled to say 'Jai Shree Ram' and there is nothing to say bad in such slogans. Mamata Banerjee, a West Bengal CM, had refused to address a function in Kolkata after such slogans.

CM Banerjee on Saturday refused to speak at a function to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose when slogans of 'Jai Shree Ram' were raised there in the presence of PM Modi. In a function held at the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Netaji, Banerjee stood on the podium to start his speech only after some of the people in the crowd chanted Jai Shree Ram.

"If someone says Jai Shri Ram, there is nothing to say bad about it because it is a kind of greeting," he said, "If someone says hello or Jai Shri Ram, it shows his courtesy." Replying to a question on Banerjee's refusal to address the gathering after shouting 'Jai Shri Ram', Yogi said, "We are not forcing anyone to speak. But if someone says Jai Shri Ram, there is nothing bad about it," he said.
