New Delhi: A company with more than 300 employees can fire workers at any time without the approval of the government. The Ministry of Labor has introduced the Industrial Relations Code-2020 Bill amending the rules for this in the Lok Sabha on Saturday. Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar withdrew the Bills introduced last year amid opposition from opposition parties, including the Congress, and put the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code-2020 and Social Security Code-2020 on the floor of the Lok Sabha.
According to the Labor Minister, more than 29 labor laws have been included in the four codes. Parliament passed one of these Wages Code, 2019 Bill in the last session. The government had long discussions with various stakeholders about the bills and has received more than six thousand suggestions. These bills were referred to the standing committee and the committee approved 174 of the 233 recommendations.
Differences emerged between the Ministry of Labor and employee organizations over the truncated provision of the Industrial Relations Code-2020. This provision was not made in the 2019 bill due to opposition from organizations. According to the provision so far, only industrial establishments or institutions with less than 100 employees could retain and remove employees without government permission.
