The people of Delhi have faced the highest cold wave in the month of January this time in the last 11 years. There have been 8 days in January so far when cold wave conditions have prevailed in Delhi. Earlier in the year 2021, there were 7 days of cold waves.

The capital usually used to be very cold in December and January, but this time the month of December was relatively warm. In the month of January, people have faced more winter than usual. Even in January, there have been two spells of severe cold in the last few days. The first phase of the cold winter began on January 5 and the people of Delhi had to struggle with the cold wave for 5 consecutive days. However, the second started on January 16 and the cold wave conditions continued for three consecutive days.

According to data available from the Meteorological Department since 2012, the month of January this year has suffered the highest cold wave in 11 years. Earlier in 2021, there was a cold wave for 7 days. However, in the year 2013, the number of such days was six. On the 16th of January this year, people suffered the coldest. Delhi's standard observatory Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius on that day.
