Kolkata: Describing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as 'political enemy number one' in West Bengal, Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said today that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the saffron party can't be kept in same place. He said that the Left and Congress should first face the 'biggest danger' in West Bengal. He said the CPI (M) lacked "anti-BJP aggression" to counter the 'divisive forces' in West Bengal.

Bhattacharya further said that Congress should not be given the main role in the alliance of these two parties as it will not benefit the Left. He has claimed that facing the saffron party is the biggest challenge facing the country at this time. He has called for all democratic and secular forces and said that the BJP should be considered as the 'main political enemy' in the West Bengal assembly elections to be held in April-May next year.

Bhattacharya said that, unlike Bihar, where the Center and the state had only one coalition government, the situation in West Bengal is different where the Trinamool Congress is in power. The functioning of TMC is not correct and we have to oppose it as well. Bhattacharya said in an interview, 'But let me make one thing clear that Trinamool Congress and BJP cannot be kept in the same place. In West Bengal, BJP should be seen as the main political enemy.
