25 lakh compensation for acid attack victims for the first time in India

Acting Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority and Senior Justice of the State High Court, Dharam Chand Chaudhary, has handed over compensation amount of 25 lakhs to the two acid attack victims of Mandi under the judgment of Criminal Injury Compensation Board. Apart from this, the amount was handed over at an event held at IPH Rest House, Baggi. It is being said that it is being claimed that this is the first case of giving so much amount to acid attack victims across the country. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sundernagar Hansraj, Administrative Officer of State Legal Authority Gaurav Mahajan, Judicial Magistrate First Class Gohar Vatsala Chaudhary and Secretary of District Legal Authority Aslam Baig were present in the same program. Apart from this, two victims of acid attack in the city of Mandi in 2005. Both have been assigned FDRs of Rs 9.75 lakh and Rs 9 lakh. Rs 3.25 lakh and Rs 3 lakh have already been provided to the victims as compensation. In this way a total amount of 25 lakhs has been given to both the victims.

Decision was pronounced on 30 December 2019


On 30 December 2019, the Criminal Injury Compensation Board passed the order giving compensation of 25 lakh to these victims on 30 December 2019. In the same decision, a compensation of Rs 13 lakh and Rs 12 lakh was given to the victims.

The legal authority had filed the application


Luckily the victims survived the acid attack. District Legal Authority Secretary Aslam Baig contacted the families of the victims and filed their applications through the District Legal Services Authority to the Criminal Injury Compensation Board. That is what the board decided to give this compensation amount.
