Cong to carry on 'satyagraha' against Centre's misuse of law

New Delhi: As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appeared for his second day of questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the National Herald newspaper case, senior party leader P Chidambaram said on Tuesday that the party will continue its "satyagraha" against the Centre's "misuse of the law."

Chidambaram stated in a press briefing that "We are condemning the misuse of the law by the Centre. We won't have any issues if ED follows the law. However, ED is not abiding by the law. What is the scheduled offence, exactly? There isn't a response. Which police agency has filed a complaint? There is no response. Please send us a copy of the FIR. There is no response." He claimed that the party has the right to protest because the investigation agency is not obeying the law in a democratic setting.

"So, where is the question of an ED inquiry under PMLA in the absence of a scheduled offence, in the lack of a police agency registering an FIR and providing us with a copy of an FIR? There are no answers to really simple questions. Clearly, they are not abiding by the law, and as a democracy, we have the right to protest "he stated.

The Congress leader went on to say, "I have a question for you." "Is there any BJP leader who has been charged by the ED in the recent 4-5 years? Is there any BJP-ruled state where the ED has filed a case, such as Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, or Karnataka? Why does this rule apply to Opposition states and leaders if it extends to the entire country?"
