Bhubaneswar: The opposition Congress has staged a six-hour strike in Odisha on Friday demanding the dismissal and arrest of  State Home Minister DS Mishra. DS Mishra is in the news for his alleged proximity to the main accused in the kidnapping and murder of Kalahandi's teacher. Police said the strike started at 6 am amid tight security. All non-BJD parties supported the strike.

Opposition parties Congress and BJP are demanding the dismissal of State Home Minister DS Mishra. The body of the 24-year-old female teacher was recovered from the school premises in Kalahandi on October 19. The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee had called for a six-hour strike across the state, but the Odisha High Court on Thursday ruled that only one strike can be carried out and not a general strike.

Congress workers were seen strike at several places. No one stopped vehicles or forcibly closing shops and commercial establishments, as security personnel were posted at main places. Several party workers were seen urging people to strike for the safety of women in the state.
