Guwahati: Fani Talukdar, the only Hindu MLA elected from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) party, took over the reins of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. He had announced his resignation on Tuesday. Talukdar was MLA from the Bhabanipur assembly seat. In Assam, the grand alliance against the BJP has also been broken.

The Congress party on Monday announced the end of Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF and its alliance with the Bodoland People's Front. Both the parties were constantly praising the CM and the BJP, which angered Congress. The Congress side said that a core committee meeting led by state president Bipun Bora was held in which concerns were raised about AIUDF's behavior towards the BJP. The congress is suffering among the people who are constantly praising the BJP and the chief minister by the AIUDF leaders.

The state Congress unit says the party has decided that the AIUDF cannot join the Mahajot in Assam, they will also be communicated to the central leadership. The state unit has sealed the break-up of alliances with both parties on its behalf.
