The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the by-polls of two assembly constituencies. The elections are set to take place on the 3rd of November. It is a triangular rivalry between BJP, Congress and JDS. The by-polls to two of the four vacant assembly constituencies in Karnataka Sira and Rajarajeshwari Nagar will be held on November 3, announced the Election Commission of India. As Congress and JDS have split up, the party has announced its own candidates for the election. While the former minister TB Jayachandra is the candidate for SIRA, Kusuma Hanumantharayappa from the RR Nagar.
TB Jayachandra had won from SIRA in 2013 and in 2018 lost the seat to JDS. Kusuma is a surprise name that the congress announced, is the wife of late IAS officer DK Ravi, who died in March 2015. DK Ravi is an honest officer and has gained tremendous goodwill of the people in the state. His mysterious death had sparked outrage in the state, with people blaming the Congress administration for it. Contrary to it, his wife joining the Congress and contesting the polls is quite interesting as even DK Ravi's mother said she must not use her son's name while campaigning on hearing the news.
BJP is expected to announce Munirathna but however, it is not easy to handle due to the internal factions within the party. Meanwhile, JDS has announced Ammajamma, wife of late MLA B Sathyanarayana, as the candidate for SIRA and is expecting to field Bengaluru City president Prakash for RR Nagar. BJP plans to bring a Vokkaliga on board in SIRA to match the caste equations. This is will be the first election DK Shivkumar as a Congress Party state president who has faced the CBI raids just days ago.
