Congress begins preparations for 'Gujarat Victory,' appoints working president

Ahmedabad: Congress on Thursday appointed seven leaders, including MLA Jignesh Mevani, as working presidents of its Gujarat unit. The party's decision comes at a time when assembly elections are scheduled in the state in November-December. Apart from Jignesh Mevani, MLA Lalit Kagathra, MLA Ritwik Makwana, MLA Ambarish Der, MLA Himmat Singh Patel, Qadir Pirzada and Indravijaysinh Gohil have been appointed as working presidents of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee. Jagdish Thakor is the President of the Gujarat Congress.

Congress has intensified its preparations for the Gujarat elections. In the 2017 elections, the Congress had won 77 seats in the (182-member Gujarat Assembly), while the BJP had swept 99 seats. According to media reports, Congress held a high-level meeting in Delhi this week over the Gujarat elections. The Congress task force set up to chalk out the electoral strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections held a meeting with the leaders of the party's Gujarat unit on Monday (July 3). The meeting was held in the Congress war room in Delhi. In the meeting, there was a discussion on the strategy for the Gujarat elections.

According to media reports, in this meeting, the Gujarat Congress leaders were instructed that there will be no personal attack on PM Narendra Modi. The state leaders were told that under no circumstances should this electoral contest become Modi versus Congress.
