The Congress has appointed Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee and Anshul Kumar, son of former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, as the national spokesperson. The interim president of Congress Sonia Gandhi has approved the appointment of Sharmistha and Anshul. Sharmistha Mukherjee was earlier the spokesperson of the Delhi Congress.
Issuing a press note, Congress Communications Department in-charge Randeep Surjewala said, 'Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the appointment of Mr. Anshul Meera Kumar and Ms. Sharmishtha Mukherjee as national spokespersons of the All India Congress Committee.' Tweeting on her promotion, Sharmistha Mukherjee thanked Sonia Gandhi and Randeep Surjewala.
