New Delhi: The Congress has been in turmoil for a long time demanding a change of leadership, but it seems that the time has come to put a halt to it. The party has convened a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Friday amid infighting in the Congress and demands for holding elections within the party. The CWC meeting of the Congress will be able to find a solution to the ongoing contradictions within the party, including the President. These questions are the biggest.
Rahul Gandhi resigned as president after being defeated in the 2019 general elections. While the Congress Working Committee approved his resignation and entrusted Sonia Gandhi with the responsibility of the interim president, though a large section of the party is demanding Rahul Gandhi to hand over the party's command again, a party faction is demanding the post of chairman as well as elections for CWC and other posts of the organization.
Congress CWC's virtual meeting is taking place amidst the same contradiction, which is expected to discuss the farmers' agitation and the current political situation with the election schedule of the new president. Dates may be announced after CWC president seals the election schedule. However, the election of the new president in the Congress is taking place at a time when the party is reeling under an internal crisis. 23 party leaders had written to the Congress president and raised several questions about the high command.
