Bengaluru violence: Former Congress mayor R Sampat Raj arrested

Bengaluru: A former Congress mayor, R Sampath Raj, who was in connection with the violence in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, has been arrested by the police. Four people were killed in the violence. Police sources have given information in this regard. On giving information, sources have told that Sampat Raj Deora is a Congress councillor from Jeevanhalli municipal ward and has been arrested from Bengaluru.

Sources, however, have not given detailed information in this regard. Sampat Raj escaped from a private hospital where he was admitted for the treatment of Coronavirus infection. It is noteworthy that on August 11, violence erupted in the city over an alleged inflammatory post on Facebook in a relative of Congress MLA R Akhand Srinivas Murthy.

A riot-like situation had arisen in the area under KG Halli and DG Halli police stations of East Bengaluru at around 8.30 pm on August 11. Nearly a thousand people gathered outside the residence of Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy and demanded action against his relative Naveen. Shortly thereafter, the police did lathi charge on the mob to stop the violence.
