NEW DELHI: The Congress party has slammed the Union government's decision to sell fertilizer under one brand as part of the Pradhanmantri Bharatiya Janurvarak Pariyojna (PMBJP).
Taking to Twitter Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote, "Nothing that the Sarvavyapi does for self-promotion should surprise us anymore. Latest is the decision to sell all fertilisers under one brand and that also as part of PM-BJP (Bharatiya Janurvarak Pariyojana). One Nation, One Man, One Fertiliser!"
The Union government announced its decision to execute the "One Nation One Fertilizer" concept by introducing a single brand and logo for fertilisers under the fertiliser subsidy programme, namely PMBJP, in a memorandum on Wednesday.
"All fertiliser companies, state trading entities (STES), and fertiliser marketing entities will use the single brand names BHARAT UREA, BHARAT DAP, BHARAT MOP, and BHARAT NPK, respectively (FMEs). The said fertiliser packages will bear a logo for the PMBJP fertiliser subsidy programme." The order specified that the print would be applied on one side of the bag of fertiliser. The Fertilizer Companies are advised to abide by the other terms and conditions of the Metrology Act, Packaged Commodities Act, and order No. 1-2/87-Fert Law dated 09th November, 1987 issued by Department of Agriculture and Cooperation under the Fertilizer Law. Two-thirds of the side of the Fertilizer's bag will be used for the new brand name and logo with PMBJP.
Beginning on October 2, the new bags under the "One Nation One Fertilizer" idea will be available. Companies will have until December 31 to remove all existing bags from the market.
