KANYAKUMARI:  Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Wednesday that "Bharat Jodo Yatra" will be a turning point in Indian politics and will mark a new beginning.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet, "September 7, 2022-  A day when India's oldest political party will launch the longest padyatra ever undertaken. It is a sombre day, a day for quiet reflection and renewed resolve," 

"A day when the longest padyatra ever undertaken by India's oldest political party would begin. This sombre day calls for introspection and redoubled resolve. A new era in Indian politics has begun. It ushers in a fresh start, "said Ramesh.

Rahul Gandhi will visit the Thiruvalluvar, Vivekananda, and Kamaraj memorials in Kanyakumari.

At the Mahatma Gandhi Mandapam, there will be a prayer meeting and a ceremony to hand over the national flag. Rahul Gandhi will then march with the "Bharat Jodo Yatris" to officially begin the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Three chief ministers namely  M.K. Stalin of Tamil Nadu, Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, and , Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, will present the national flag.

He said, the Congress wants other like-minded parties and civil society organisations to join the programme, which is why they are marching with the national flag.

On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi stated that the opposition had no choice but to approach the nation's citizens.

Rahul Gandhi and other Congressmen will walk to the rally's seashore location after the gathering at the Mahatma Gandhi Mandapam, where Stalin will be present, to officially commence the yatra. According to sources, the Congress president may read a statement or present a video message at the occasion. In Italy, Sonia Gandhi's mother recently passed away. She is abroad, as is the party's general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

On Tuesday evening, Rahul Gandhi arrived in Chennai. The Yatra is a "transformative time for Indian politics and it is a vital moment for the revival of the party," Ramesh had stated on Tuesday.
