Karnataka: Rebel MLAs reaches Supreme Court against speaker's decision

NEW DELHI: Rebel Congress MLAs have reached the Supreme Court against the decision of Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar to disqualify him and allow him to contest during the assembly term. On Monday, disqualified Rebel MLAs Ramesh Zarkiholi and Mahesh Kumathali filed a petition in the apex court on the matter. He has challenged the speaker's order.

It is worth mentioning here that Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar has taken a big decision on Sunday. The speaker has disqualified all the 14 rebel MLAs of the Congress and jds on Sunday. In Karnataka, the BJP government has been formed after the collapse of the coalition government of Kumaraswamy. CM Bs Yeddyurappa is to prove his majority in the Assembly on Monday.

Now, the total number of disqualified MLAs has gone up to 17. Earlier, the speaker had disqualified 3 MLAs. With the disqualification of these MLAs, the number of members in the Karnataka Assembly has gone up to 208. With this, the majority figure has now gone up to 105. Speaker Ramesh Kumar has also announced that all the DISQualified MLAs will be able to contest the elections only after the 15th term of the Assembly is over.
