New Delhi: The Congress party launched a scathing critique against the government, seizing upon reports of people in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana reportedly queuing up for employment opportunities in Israel. The party asserted that this phenomenon underscores the "grim unemployment situation" prevailing in the country and casts doubt on the government's claims of a robust and flourishing economy.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, drew attention to the increasing number of young men standing in line, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, seeking jobs in Israel as replacements for Palestinian workers. In a post on X, Ramesh remarked, "Let us set aside the ethical, moral, and political issues that have gained significance in light of the interim judgment of the International Court of Justice yesterday. Does this not reflect the grim unemployment situation in our own country, and does it not make a mockery of claims of a booming job-creating economy?"

The International Court of Justice, in its preliminary decision, refrained from issuing a ceasefire order in Gaza but urged Israel to minimize casualties and damage during its military offensive. Notably, the court did not dismiss genocide charges against Israel for its actions in Gaza.

The Congress has consistently raised concerns about the government's economic policies, emphasizing the escalating issues of unemployment and inflation in the country.
