Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared his intention to disclose the purported name and address of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's alleged "body double," whom he claims was used during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam. Sarma made this assertion earlier, suggesting that a lookalike might have been utilized during the Congress rally in the state. The Assam Chief Minister plans to reveal these details after his two-day visit to Dibrugarh. Sarma has previously raised questions about whether the alleged use of a "body double" is part of a broader conspiracy.

Sarma's claim regarding Rahul Gandhi's use of a "body double" stirred controversy during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.' He questioned the authenticity of the person sitting at the front of the bus during the rally, implying it might not be Rahul Gandhi himself. The chief minister asserted that the bus used for the yatra had multiple rooms, and Gandhi was often seated inside with a few people, while a "lookalike" waved to the public. The yatra faced police action in Assam, leading to clashes between Congress workers and state police, resulting in an FIR against Rahul Gandhi being transferred to the Assam CID.

The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' traveled through Assam from January 18 to 25, becoming a focal point for exchanges between Rahul Gandhi and Himanta Sarma. In response to Sarma's allegations, the Congress MP labeled him the "most corrupt Chief Minister of India." The ongoing controversy adds another layer to the political tensions surrounding the yatra and the broader political landscape in Assam.
