Assam is still reeling from an alleged "fake encounter" in Assam's Nagaon district, in which a former student leader was shot by police. The opposition, particularly the Congress, has unleashed a torrent of criticisms against the BJP government in Assam, led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Angkita Dutta, Assam Congress politician and head of the state's youth Congress, has slammed the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led administration for the state's infamous "encounter raj." "We will not be silenced." On Friday, Assam Young Congress president Angkita Dutta remarked, "We will continue to raise the voice of the youth."

Members of the Assam Youth Congress, led by Angkita Dutta, staged a huge rally against the state government in Guwahati on Thursday over the "encounter raj" issue. The protest was held in order to demand a judicial inquiry into the police shooting of former student leader Kirtti Kamal Bora in Nagaon. Dutta also tweeted a video of herself being pulled by security forces during the protest on Thursday.

According to local media sources, the most popular presidential candidates are current President Barham Salih of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and former Foreign Minister and Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
