New Delhi: The core Tata Group, which purchases Air India, is considering it as a major achievement. This is because, for Tata, Air India was not just a medium of business, but it was involved in his special project. After almost 70 years, Tata has withdrawn Air India from the government. Indeed, Air India was like a shining jewel for the country since 1947. The then Government of India was also proud of its inception and the way it operated.

In the 1930s, Air India was started under the name of Tata Airlines. JRD Tata had hoped that this airline company would help take independent India to new heights, but that could not happen. In the initial days, the JRD had proposed to the then government that an international service under Air India International be started as an associate company. For this, the government gave its consent and in 1948, the Nehru government bought a 49 per cent stake in Tata Airlines. Five years later, the Government of India brought the Air Corporation Act in 1953 and took an edge in the stake of Tata Airlines. The government later changed its name to 'Air India International.'

In fact, after the end of the Second World War, the United States had launched many Dakota aircraft in the market and during that time many industrialists got into this business. At the same time, in India, where hardly a few companies could survive, more than a dozen airline companies came forward. However, not everyone's business remained the same. Except for Tata Airlines, almost everyone else was incurring losses. In the meantime, Ambika Airlines and Jupiter Airways declared themselves bankrupt. In such a situation, the then Government of India proposed to nationalise it.

JRD Tata raised his voice against this decision of the government. At that time, the Government had decided to nationalise 11 airlines. In such a situation, the Tata group alone could not last long to protest. After this, all the Indian airlines were merged into one and it was taken over by the government. Let us know that the then government had given Rs 2.8 crore to the Tata Group in lieu of buying Air India.
